When I used to interview rappers like Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign, I would ask them for advice about their creative work. I was never satisfied with the answers, until I read 50 Cent’s book, “Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter.” 📖 Here are 50 lessons I got from it:

1. If you are serious about something, don’t hold back. In 2011, 50 Cent lost over 50 lbs. for a role in a movie you’ve never heard of. It went straight to DVD. People laughed at him, but he demonstrated his commitment. Embarrassment is a small cost to pay for greatness.

2. One of 50 Cent’s first disclaimers in his book is he’s not an expert on life. He’s made mistakes that cost him money, relationships, friendships, etc. Don’t try to be perfect. Be you.

3. There is no shame in pivoting your career. Don’t be stubborn. You can make money in all sorts of ways. When 50 Cent decided to leave music, revenue had decreased by 50%.

4. In 2003, 50 Cent bought Mike Tyson’s old mansion for $4m. The maintenance bill cost him $70k per month. After 12 years of trying to sell it, he eventually did at a loss for just under $3m. You’re going to take some L’s, sometimes the most important thing is to just move on with your life.

5. Your current thing is an internship for the next thing. Choose it wisely.
